 All
these pupils are in the care of 140 teachers (including specialists) who work either full or
part-time.
According to the 1962 law on public teaching, the local Council schools
have as their mission "to support the family in the education and
teaching of the young".
The local Council has not made any ruling concerning primary schools
but the rules regarding life in the school have been explained in a
calendar for the pupils.
The pedagogical objectives for each of the stages are defined by the
Department of Education, Culture and Sport; they are finalised at the
local level by an establishment project and a schools charter, one peculiarity
of which is to refuse any exclusion by allowing each pupil to attend
classes with friends of the same age.
On the administrative level, a Schools Commission of 20
persons assisted by a full-time Director is responsible for the organisation
and administration of the public schools.
An Association of the pupils' parents maintains regular contact with
the teachers and the schools' administrators.
